about

Piano Diaries

During the last weeks of the outgoing year I found myself thinking about a new project for 2011 – something very pure and personal, 'back-to-the-roots', kind of a 'musical diary':
On January 02 I started posting a new slice of music every Sunday morning.
The tunes were performed on that small upright piano my mother bought me with the money from her savings account when I was thirteen. That high-gloss finished mahogany beauty has been my faithful companion through the past decades.
Today it looks a bit worn-out, standing proudly, if slightly out of tune at our Duesseldorf apartment, patiently awaiting its use at family 'bedroom concerts'.
These small video clips would – for the first time – expose the 'lofi' vibe of such an event to a larger [online] audience: Spontaneously played, inspired by the moment of its creation, completely rough, untreated and recorded the most basic possible way.
[Frankly, I have done that with my mobile phone...]
In 2011 my mother celebrated her 85th birthday – a perfect occasion to dedicate this project as a present to her, and to the fact that – 35 years earlier – her gift to me had been a piano, not a horse...
This CD album shall give you some small insights into my 2011 'Piano Diaries'.
